I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.
The following episodes and resources explore the opening words of the Creed: “I believe in God.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church devotes its entire first section—almost 200 points—to these four words alone. That’s because they are foundational. Without faith, and without belief in a Creator who made the universe, it becomes difficult to understand or embrace Christianity.
Episode One explores the concept of faith. What does it mean to have faith? Is faith blind? Does it mean uncritically accepting what we’re told? And to what extent is the intellect involved in Christian belief?
Episode Two asks the question: Does God exist? How can we know whether or not there is a God?
Episodes 90–94 offer a deeper dive into the question of God’s existence, summarising some of the most well-known arguments for the existence of God — including Aquinas’ Five Ways, the Kalam Cosmological Argument, the argument from fine-tuning, the argument from consciousness, and the argument from beauty. These episodes also address common objections to God’s existence and present reasoned responses to those challenges.

"There is no one, Kristin, who does not love and fear God [...] For if a man knew no yearning for God and God’s being, then he would thrive in Hell, and we alone would not understand that he had found his heart’s desire. Then the fire would not burn him if he did not long for coolness, and he would not feel the pain of the serpent’s bite if he did not long for peace.”
